Year 6 Tag Rugby Tournament

On Sunday 1st March, Cheyenne Lee, Megan Drew, Amy Parker, James Culliford, Aaron Cox, Mathew McCarthy, Mathew Bryant, Lydia Waller, Joe Addison, Cameron Goodwil, Emma Wilson and Xavier Bartelet, went to the Bristol Memorial Stadium to play in a Tag Rugby Tournament.

Although we did not win, we had a great experience. We played 2 matches against Uphill Primary and Hanham Abbots Primary. We played in the centre of the rugby pitch and had white lines drawn on the pitch just for the 3 rugby teams.

We even were able to watch Bristol Rugby versus London Harlequins play. The rugby players had a free ticket and family and friends got a discount on their tickets. The School Association helped and paid for our blue and white rugby kit. At half time all 3 of the rugby teams were allowed to walk round the pitch and wave to everyone. We all had a brilliant time and experience.  Thank you very much Mrs Kydd and Mr Beard!

Red Nose Day for Comic Relief

Did anybody notice all those pyjamas being worn to school last Friday?!  This was all in aid of Red Nose Day.  £1 was donated from each person who either wore their pyjamas or came in non-uniform and we raised a fantastic total of £450.

Lots of silly jokes were being told all day and some of the swimmers kept their pyjamas on to walk up to Horfield Leisure Centre – pity we didn’t catch a photo of them!

Our Enrichment poetry group on Wednesday was very busy with Mr Sutton – some brilliant poems were written and you can read some of them below.  Our Enrichment Website group also got their designing heads on and you may spot a few red noses!

Red Nose Day

Comic Relief

Is such a belief.

People are trying

But they are dying.

People don’t have money,

That’s why it’s not funny.

Some people only have rags to wear,

They don’t have anyone to care.

So because they don’t have clothes

That’s why we wear a red nose.

Love to Love the World

Red Nose Day, Red Nose Day,

A day for fun and all.

Red Nose Day, Red Nose Day,

A time when we stand tall.

The world is at stake

So please give us some money

Then we can spend it

On things that are not funny.

We’ll try to do it for people

Who are so poor.

So do show you care

And give us more.

Colleen and Sam

Funny for Money

Something funny for money is the plea,

so what does that mean for you and me?

We might have on pyjamas or silly clothes,

or perhaps wear an enormous ultra-red nose.

Maybe we’ll wear an odd looking hat,

or come dressed as a grinning Cheshire cat.

We could decide not to speak all day,

or perhaps say everything in a funny way.

Maybe we’ll move like a penguin or a toad,

or sing aloud as we walk along the road.

It could be that we’ll tell hilarious jokes,

or just make silly faces to amuse folks.

We could smile at everything we do,

or just act as though we don’t have a clue.

So whatever you decide to do in the end,

remember your help will make you a friend.

Time Capsule for Horfield Primary

Last Tuesday was a very exciting day for the School – our time capsule was being buried underneath the new concrete floor of our new extension.  Mr Sutton held an assembly where all the children whose suggestions of what to put in the capsule had been included stood to show everyone else what was going in.

The list was endless!  A photo of each class, a list of all the children in the school, a photo of the youngest and oldest child, our uniform, a mobile phone, Harry Potter and Michael Morpurgo books, a letter from Mr Sutton to the finder, letters from three children, and lots lots more!  We also included a poem written by Rebecca Griffiths which you can read below.

Time Capsule Thoughts

The Greeks invented theatre

The Romans invented roads

The Victorians decided to modernise,

And electricity lit the world.

We’ve come further on

and computers are spreading knowledge

What will be your discoveries 100 years from now…

Will extinct creatures live again

and thrive as the climate changes?

Will the pot of gold at the end of the rainbow

no longer be a fairy tale?

Will aeroplanes be powered by the Sun?

Will posters advertise Easyjet trips to Mars?

Or journeys to the stars?

Will robots teach in this school?

Or maybe you’ll train to be astronauts?

Maybe time will be kind to you,

Or maybe it will not…

I’d give anything to hang around and see

What becomes of this school!

Good luck from

Horfield CEVC Primary School 2009!
