Where each of us has a pride in our achievements.

Music at Horfield Primary School

Music at Horfield CE Primary School is vibrant and thriving.  Over a third of all pupils learn an instrument.

Group lessons are available at a cost of £27 per term and we currently offer tuition in the following instruments:

Violin

Piano

Electric Guitar

Acoustic Guitar

Drum Kit
Clarinet

Flute

Cornet

French Horn

Euphonium

Tuba

Trombone

Saxophone

Recorder

Within the school any child in Key Stage 2 can be part of the School Choir, which currently has over 60 members.  Year 6 have the opportunity of singing in an Ensemble which tackles more challenging music.

We also have an advanced Recorder Group. During the Enrichment Afternoon 40 children take part in the School Orchestra and all children in Key Stage 1 have the opportunity of trying the recorder.

We believe in encouraging children to gain as wide an experience as possible of the musical world through live performances and by inviting musicians into the school.

Over the last year we have invited:

*  String quartets
*  PAX - an African drumming group
*  A marimba soloist
*  Daniel de Grunchy Lambert - brass

   finalist for BBC Young Musician of

   the Year 2004

Children also have the opportunity to take part in performances outside of the school and last year participated in Britten's Noyes Fludde, conducted by Peter Stark with students from UWE at Bristol Catherdral.

In September 2004 we were invited to perform at the opening ceremony of a partnership arts project with Uganda organised by Bristol LEA.
