Newsletter No.18 - Friday 25th January 2008

Behaviour

Henry’s re-introduction was greeted with enthusiasm by the school on Monday morning and he has been very happy in Class 4 this week.

Ice Skating Day Saturday February 9th 12 noon – 4.00pm

A new event for our school is Ice Skating in the hall. Details were sent out last week. The cost will be £4.00 for a one hour session and tickets, which must be bought in advance, are available from the school office. Children must be accompanied by an adult at this event.

Unfortunately we have found that we cannot run a barbecue during the event but we will be selling light refreshments

Questionnaire for Parents

Please remember to return the extended school parent questionnaire as soon as you can and before the end of January

Assessment Evening for Y 2 and Y 6 parents. 13th February 7-9pm

This is an important information session for all parents whose children will be undergoing end of key stage assessments. Key Stage 1 parents are asked to come between 7.00-8.00pm and Key Stage 2 parents from 8.00-9.00pm.

Foundation Teachers Science Box

Classes 1 and 2 are creating an outdoor Science Investigation Box and the teachers would like to hear from you if you have any items which might be suitable, e.g. magnifying lenses, funnels.

After School Clubs

Dance club is from 3.45 to 4.45 on Wednesday. The children will bring home a separate note about this.

No Netball on Wednesday and no Gym on Thursday next week.

YMCA Cricket club

The YMCA Cricket Club is pleased to announce the continuation of its new Sporting Fundays for children aged 5 -11yrs. The dates for the February Holiday Programme are February 18th and February 22nd with costs at £1.15 for one day and £2.25 for both.

Lateness

There has been a great improvement in children coming in on time this week so thank you. However, there are still children who are consistently collected late at the end of school - and this is an ongoing source of distress for the younger children especially.

Students of the Week:

Students of the Week in year 6 are Sian Warner for working hard to improve her writing and Jessica Webber for her pleasant manner and general helpfulness. Assembly Theme: Our assembly theme for next week is Welcoming.

Visit to Poland

Next week our Year 6 children will be gathering in the hall at 4.00am on Monday morning as the first part of their exciting journey to our partner school in Mszana Dolna, Poland. The children have a really busy and interesting itinerary for the week and we hope they all have a really good time. We will look forward to a full report in this newsletter in a few weeks’ time. PS. the Polish teachers have just emailed to say that winter has returned to Poland and that there is lots of new fresh snow!

Congratulations to the Year 5 basketball team for winning a 6-school tournament at Monks Park this week. The team won every game they played and Cheyenne Lee was particularly commended for her contribution! Well done the team!

Congratulations to Robert Grant for earning his green stripe and Christopher Ackerman for gaining a yellow stripe in Taekwon-Do.

We are also commending Harry Prewett-Britton for, after a few weeks of reminders, came to school wearing a brand new school sweatshirt and looking very smart!

Well done to them all!

I have a dream…

On Monday 21st January it was Martin Luther King Day and we learnt about the famous "I have a dream" speech in assembly. The children were asked to capture some of their dreams / wishes / aspirations in the form of a poem and on this page we are pleased to publish just a few of them. We are aiming to select 10 from across the school which will eventually be compiled with 10 poems from each of our partner schools in Sweden, Poland, Romania and Turkey into a booklet of European dreams!

Say you had a Dream

Say you had a dream,

to be an astronaut,

don’t let that dream

fly away.

Make sure you keep

that thought.

Say you had a dream,

a dream to be a star,

don’t let anyone put you down,

you may just go that far.

Erin Gregg

My Dream…

My dream is…

To swing like a monkey

To fly like a bee

To flow like a waterfall

To bounce like a ball

To have one wish

To clear my dish

To be colourful like a butterfly

To never say goodbye

To be kind to pets

To never do a bet

To be silent like a snake

To swim in a bright blue lake

To be strong as a fire

To be tough like a tyre

To be knd and helpful

That’s my only true desire

Lydia Waller and Millie Beaumont

Let no one steal your dreams

Let no one steal your dreams

Let no one tear apart

The burning of ambition

That fires the drive inside your heart.

Let no one steal your dreams

Let no one tell you that you can’t

Let no one tell you that you won’t.

Set your sight and keep them fixed

Set your sight on high

Let no one steal your dreams

Your only limit is the sky.

Let no one steal your dreams

Follow your soul

For only when you follow them

Will you feel truly whole.

Set your sights and keep them fixed

Set your sights on high

Let no one steal your dreams

Your only limit is the sky.

Emily Thomas

My Dream

My dream is for peace all over the world

For every man, woman and child to have water

My dream is for there to be no hunger or greed

But for everyone to be happy and safe.

My dream is for there to be no-one on the street

And everyone to have a home.

My dream is to stop bullying

And for everyone to feel safe at home.

My dream is for there to be no war

No-one being hurt, just everyone to be happy

With their friends and family.

That is my dream. No-one can stop my dream.

Bethany Smith

I have a dream

I want to swim

I want the feeling of swimming

I don’t want it to be a dream

I want it to be true.

I want to be in the water

Going up and down the lanes

I want to feel the joy standing up there

I know I can do it if I try

That’s my dream.
