Carol Service
Thank you to everyone who attended Monday night’s carol service at the church. It really was a special occasion and the church was absolutely packed. I really do think that the service once again reflected the superb community spirit which is such of hallmark of the school and it was marvellous to see so many children from Reception right through to Year 6 taking such an active and enthusiastic part. I am also delighted to announce that the retiring collection raised a wonderful £280 for the St Peter’s Hospice Appeal. Thank you for your outstanding generosity.
Church Services
The following services will be taking place at the
· Sunday 23rd December 6pm Carol Service
· Monday 24th December 4.30pm Christingle Service
· Monday 24th December 11.30pm Midnight Mass
· Tuesday 25th December 10.00am Festival Mass
End of Term Service
Our end of term service featured a staff interpretation of the Nativity with Mrs Caporn making a guest appearance as Mary. This was particularly apt as Mrs Caporn expects her baby early in the New Year! It was also very pleasing to have Father John involved in the service too as it is a very significant birthday celebration for him today and we all enjoyed singing him Happy Birthday and presenting him with a candle for every year of his age!
Reminders for Term 3:
· The new term begins on Monday 7th January 2007
· Please make sure children are in school on time for registration at 8.55am. There has been an increase in the amount of lateness recently and I do hope that the New Year will bring with it lots of resolutions to be on time for school.
· Please also make sure children come dressed according to the school dress code.
· Most after school clubs will continue as normal in the first week of Term 3 (including Henry's of course).
· We do expect there to be music tuition in the first week.
· Enrichment sessions recommence on Wednesday 16th January
· The final swimming session for classes 5, 6, 13 & 14 takes place on Friday 11th January
· Classes 3, 4, 11 & 12 will start their swimming sessions on Friday 18th January.
· We will be collecting used Christmas cards at the beginning of next term. We use a selection of cards for a variety of art and craft activities, and the rest we will arrange to be recycled.
· Our assembly theme for the first week of Term 3 will be Journeys in which we will develop ideas connected to Epiphany.
Buildings News
If you have been near the front of the school during the last two days you will have noticed the scaffold tower which has been erected right next to the front door. The tower will be used by workmen to convert our oil-fired boiler to gas during the holiday period, and we hope this will lead to a cheaper and more efficient heating system as a consequence.
You may also remember that we circulated a great deal of celebratory news some months ago to inform parents about our major building project which will replace all temporary rooms with permanent structures as well as create a new ICT suite and library. There is a strong suspicion that contractors might be on site at the beginning of February with a rumour that work will start in earnest after the Term 3 break. It may also be the case that the entire project will be completed by the end of the summer 2008….We haven’t had any of this confirmed in writing… but we are being given increasingly optimistic verbal massages…we will keep you updated with news as it becomes available!
Tree Shredding / Grounds Tidy-up
During the morning of Saturday 12th January we are planning to hold our annual Christmas tree shredding session and at the same time carry out some important maintenance jobs in the schools grounds. These will include:
- Pruning and tidying up borders and hedgerows
- Digging and preparing the allotment
- Making paths between borders in the allotment
- Creating a path in the conservation area
- General clearance and litter picking
If you are able to help in any way with these activities and would like to work off some of the Christmas excesses in a worthwhile manner with a keen group of volunteers please let us know in the week beforehand to give us some idea of numbers as we plan the event. You certainly don’t have to be an expert and there will be free coffee and biscuits for all helpers!
Similarly, if you wish to have your tree shredded you can bring it along to school on the morning anytime before 12 noon and watch it being converted to mulch, or you can even throw it onto the grass at the corner of the extension car park near the main entrance pedestrian gate during the week beforehand.
It now just remains for me to wish everyone a very happy and peaceful Christmas, and I shall look forward to the school going on to achieve even greater things in 2008. A Sutton
