Christmas Bazaar
Our Christmas Bazaar takes place tomorrow between 11.30am and 2pm and I would like to thank you all for your generous donations of jolly bags, bottles, toys, books, cakes, hamper donations, raffle tickets, and a whole lot more besides! It promises to be a really good occasion and I look forward to seeing many children, parents, ex-pupils and friends in school tomorrow for the big event.
Congratulations to Classes 2 and 7 for winning the Jolly Bag competition.
Congratulations also to Classes 4 and 7 for bringing in the most bottles for the stall tomorrow.
Congratulations to the staff and children also for managing to ensure that the Christmas tree has been duly erected and decorated, and for decorating the Hall with yet another superb set of hoops to celebrate the Christmas season.
Finally, the School Association Committee would still welcome more volunteers to help out before, during and after the event if anyone can spare the time.
Choir Reminders
Christmas Bazaar - The choir will be singing at the Christmas Bazaar at around 12.30pm. School uniform is not needed on this occasion.
Monday 3rd December – The choir will be taking part in the annual Save the Children Concert for local schools at the parish church. Children are asked to be at the church by 6.45pm to be ready for the 7pm start. Children should wear school uniform for this event.
Tickets and programmes are available from school on Monday, and they will also be for sale on the door @ 50p each.
Christmas Tree Sales
If you want to buy a real Christmas tree then you might try dropping in at the Parish Church Hall from 9.00am onwards for the next 3 Saturdays (1st, 8th, 15th December) where the 62nd Scouts will be delighted to serve you.
Christmas Activities
There will be a number of Christmas related events taking place in school next week:
Monday morning – Students from the Old Vic Theatre Company will be in school in the morning to entertain the children with their version of the Nativity. This has always proven to be a highly successful event in previous years and we look forward to this year’s version.
Monday evening (7pm) – Our choir will be taking part in the annual Save the Children concert at the
Tuesday afternoon – The Reception classes and children in Key Stage 1 will hold the dress rehearsal for their Nativity performance. The whole school will act as the audience on this occasion.
Wednesday morning (10am) – The first of the Nativity performances to parents will take place in the school hall. Please be aware that we are not able to operate a crèche for either of the performances. We shall be recording the performances in DVD format for distribution later this term.
Thursday afternoon (2pm) - The second chance for parents to see the Infant Nativity performance in the Hall.
Friday morning (10.15am) – We hope that all those parents and friends who regularly help out in school in any capacity will be able to join us for coffee and mince pies so that we can say thankyou for your much appreciated efforts. The choir will sing some songs especially for the helpers too. If you could let us know whether you plan to attend it would be helpful to us as we do have to calculate how many mince pies we need!
Christmas Dinner
This is to remind you that all children will be invited to have a Christmas Dinner in school on Thursday 13th December - even if they usually have a packed lunch. The dinner will cost the standard amount of £1.95 and we would like to receive the payment for the meal by Monday 10th December. This is a very pleasant occasion where the children are waited on by staff and we hope that as many children as possible will wish to take part.
Similarly, we are requesting that any dinner money outstanding for meals taken this term is sent to school by Friday 14th December.
The BJSO is holding a concert tomorrow at
Tesco Vouchers
Thank you for all the Tesco sports vouchers. Can I encourage you to look in pockets, bags, kitchen drawers and behind mantelpiece clocks for any extra vouchers as we do plan to send them off very soon now.
Mrs Lin Seymour
A few weeks ago we put an item in the newsletter to inform parents about sad death of Mrs Lin Seymour who had been such a good friend to our school community for so many years through her involvement with the Welly Playgroup and through her voluntary help with enrichment activities in school. We are aware that there is a memorial collection fund underway on behalf of Lin with the proceeds destined for St Peter’s Hospice. If anyone wishes to contribute to the fund we are very willing to receive donations in the school office. Please mark any envelopes with “Lin Seymour Fund”.
Sickness
We are still being affected by relatively high levels of children and staff suffering with an infection which involves sickness and diarrhoea. Please stress to your child the need for good hygiene practice, especially after visiting the toilet, and if you are unfortunate enough to suffer with the symptoms, the current advice is that children should be kept at home for at least 48 hours to prevent the infection spreading.
School Review
This week we were visited by a School Improvement Partner who spent a morning looking at our standards of attainment and achievement. His role is to pass an external opinion on the school’s effectiveness and, in particular, he has to make a judgement about the quality of the school’s monitoring and evaluation procedures. In July 2007 we agreed that our self-evaluation processes were satisfactory but on this occasion, he was very impressed at some of the new arrangements we have implemented, and as a consequence he has rated our improved procedures as “good”.
Students of the Week: Students of the Week in Year 6 are Cameron Betty in Class 13 for his excellent creative writing and Megan Adams in Class 14 for a really positive attitude to Maths all week. Well done both!
Assembly Theme: Our assembly theme for next week is Hope (Advent)
Achievement Board
Congratulations to Cameron Betty in Year 6 who has just achieved his green belt in Shoto karate after a year of training to reach this level.
Congratulations also to Tyler Wills for swimming 10m today and Travis Glover for achieving his 25m. It looks like a good week for Year 6!
