Newsletter No.9 - Friday 9th November 2007
Dear Parents,
International News
Mr Sutton, Miss Graham, Miss Sutton and Mrs V Bright met with colleagues from our link schools in Izmir, Turkey this week.
Preparations are also well underway for the Year 6 Educational visit to Poland in February and Mr Sutton will be planning the itinerary with our colleagues from Mszana Dolna. The next meeting for Year 6 parents will be on Thursday 22nd November at 3.30pm. We will be showing a DVD in another class for the children so that parents and teachers can discuss any special concerns. Parents who are unable to attend are invited to speak with teachers either by telephone or at another mutually convenient time. All relevant paperwork will be sent home.
Sad News
It is with great sadness that we have to inform you of the untimely death of Mrs Lin Seymour who has been a good friend to our school community for many years. Many of our children and parents will remember her from the Welly Playgroup. Our thoughts and prayers are with her family at this time.
Parents' Evening
Parents' evenings will take place on Tuesday and Wednesday next week and you should have received the slip back with your appointment time.
Book Fayre
This was successfully launched yesterday and we are grateful to the Year 6 children who are helping with the organisation. The book fayre will be open until the end of Parents' Evening on Tuesday 13th November.
Sports News:
Football Match
On November 5th members of our football squad played against Ashley Down at Monks Park school. The final score was 2-0 to us. Mr Macdonald was very pleased with the attitude and commitment of the children.
After School Sports Clubs
* Hockey and KS1 Tennis Clubs start today and all children who expressed an interest are able to join.
* Tag Rugby takes place this evening, and Fun & Football will be starting again next Thursday 15th November until 13th December.
Swimming Policy
If children are unable to remove their earrings for swimming, they will have to wear a swimming hat, which will be provided by Horfield Leisure Centre. This is a new policy which has been brought in by the leisure centre.
Shoebox Appeal
These are being collected on Tuesday. So far we have collected over 70 which is amazing so thank you very much everyone for your generosity.
Students of the Week
Students of the Week in Year 6 are Cameron Grant in Class 14 and Jess Barrass in Class 13. Both children have worked hard and been extremely helpful.
Achievement Board
Cross Country Race
On Tuesday 6th November Amy Parker took part in a Bristol Primary Schools 1km cross country race. She finished 12th out of 80 girls with a time of 4.05 minutes and was chosen to be part of a squad to represent Bristol in a regional championship on the 18th November 2007. Congratulations Amy - we wish you the best of luck!
School Association News:
Cake Sale
A very successful cake sale once again, which raised £84.20. Thank you everyone for providing or buying the cakes!
Second hand uniform
Last year the School Association raised £200 through the second-hand uniform sales. The proceeds are donated to year groups and after school clubs, and this time was split between Year 6 and the after school Art Clubs which will be starting shortly.
AGM
Although this was poorly attended new officers and committee members were elected. Mr Sutton spoke highly of the dedication and commitment of the many parents who were actively involved last year. It would appear that we are the envy of other schools in this area because so many of you contribute in so many different ways to the life of our school.
Competition winners
Congratulations to Finley Jones (class 7) for designing the winning entry for the Bazaar programme cover; and to Lizzie Howe (class 5) for her winning design for the publicity flyer.
Christmas Bazaar
The Bazaar will take place on Saturday 1st December, from 11.30am-2.00pm. Attached is more information about the Hamper Raffle, Stalls and requests for helpers - please consider if you can help out this year!
Finally the assembly theme next week is Light & Dark.
L Lewis - Deputy Headteacher
