Dear Parents,
Book Fayre
There will be a Book Fayre in the hall at home time every day from Thursday 8th - Tuesday 13th November. In the past this has been a super opportunity to peruse a large collection of children's books with the possibility of buying early Christmas presents. As the last day of the fayre coincides with our Open Evening we will also make sure that the books are available throughout the evening for parents to browse whilst here. If any parent is able to help with an after school session or at some time during the Open Evening please contact Mr Parr via the school office.
There will be no Gym Club on Thursday because of the Fayre.
Choir
Miss Graham and Ms Green currently run a Key Stage 1 lunchtime choir on Mondays from 12.45 - 1.15. This choir is now open to Reception children and any interested child / parent should let Miss Graham know.
Drama Club
I am pleased to inform all the would-be thespians who have been waiting for Mrs Andrews' Drama Club to start that the first session will take place in the hall at home time on Monday 5th November.
Shoebox Appeal
Please remember that we are still collecting Christmas shoeboxes until the beginning of next week. So far we have received 15 wrapped parcels and we do hope that we will be able to send off many more than this for this annual appeal.
Cake Sale
Our next cake sale and school uniform sale takes place at home time on Wednesday 7th November.
Assembly Theme
Our assemblies next week will be on the theme of 'Remembrance'. We shall be selling both red and white poppies from Monday onwards and children are invited to make a donation (suggested 50p each) if they would like to have one (or both).
Parents' Evening
A reminder that our Parents' Evenings are on Tuesday 13th and Wednesday 14th November, and we have requested that reply slips are returned to school by 9.00am on Tuesday 6th November so that we can allocate appointment times and then inform you.
Arts Questionnaire
Our Artsmark award, which we received three years ago from the Arts Council, is due for renewal this month. Miss Graham has been auditing our Arts provision in school and we will shortly reapply for the award at the gold level. The Arts curriculum encompasses not only dance, music, art and drama but also includes creative writing of any kind, film, photography and multi media. We like to think that our Arts provision is a strength in school
because of things like our enrichment afternoon and the large number of children learning to play musical instruments. However, we are currently trying to improve the arts provision further and we would be extremely grateful if you could complete and return the Arts questionnaire which should accompany this letter by Friday 9th November. Thank you.
Writing
As you may know we are currently concentrating on promoting writing skills in school and this week I am delighted to publish Louisa White's (Class 8) poem who responded to the task of writing about her eventful autumn break in the following creative way:
In the half term holiday
I went swimming every day
I woke up at eight o'clock
and I felt okay
I got a new Nintendo Wii game,
It is really fun,
I asked my mum for a cuddly toy,
I said, "Please mum, please mum, please mum!"
My guinea pig had babies,
They are very cute.
They like apples and celery,
Then I found a newt.
I practised my recorder.
My dad was very kind.
I hid a toy sharpener.
My sister said, "That's mine, that's mine, that's mine!"
It was lovely weather.
There was a trampoline,
I went bungee running,
'cos I was very keen.
Special People
Our assembly theme of 'Special People' this week was launched by Father John on Wednesday who told us how we can all become saints! The children were later invited to consider the ways in which they are special and I thought you might like to share in some of their thoughts when asked to complete the sentence; "I am special because.."

We're all special in some way...what is your specialty? A Sutton
Well done to Class 12 for their enthusiastic participation in a lunchtime athletics event yesterday. Thomas Carter wrote:
"First we ran around the playground and we had to leap over a hurdle like a kangaroo. Next we split into 3 groups to do; spread-bounce, a balancing act and long-jumping. Finally we did javelin and shotput. The shot was very heavy -2kg! I loved every minute of it and recommend it to anyone because it was great!"
