Physical Education and Sport
We aim to offer a range of activities starting with structured play in Reception and building up through the important area of learning skills to team sports with the older children. Netball, rounders, cricket, rugby, hockey, football and athletics will all be available to the children at the upper end of the junior department, and for those who are especially keen and interested it may be possible to join after school clubs to further their abilities. The Juniors and Infants enjoy separate sports days in the Summer Term and our aim is to include all children in these occasions with the emphasis being on skills and working together as a team rather than just the specially gifted. However, we do give opportunities during the sports days for those children who excel at running, for instance, to race against each other.
We are fortunate to have pleasant school grounds and a large field for team games and play activities. We participate in inter school matches in netball, football and rounders and host occasional 'tournaments' whereby several schools compete against each other. We are also fortunate to have several teaching staff members who are keen, interested and/or have sporting qualifications and are willing to give up their time to enable children to gain from representing the school at various sports. PE/Games Kit
Children are expected to have the appropriate kit for PE/Games. Boys need shorts and a top, and girls should have shorts and a top or a leotard. We prefer children to do PE in bare feet, but daps will be needed for outside activities. Children will not be allowed to wear trainers for indoor PE/Games. In winter, football kit may be needed. Children will also need a bag in which to keep their kit. We encourage all children, regardless of gender, to join in as many types of physical activity as possible.Children are not permitted to wear jewellery during PE/Games for safety reasons, and the school cannot accept responsibility for such items if they are brought to school.
Children may only be excused because of temporary illness or injury, in which case a note should be sent to the class teacher explaining the reason and duration of the exclusion. Written medical evidence is required if a child is to be excused on a long term basis. Back to top
