Numeracy

From September 1999 there will be a National Numeracy Strategy which we believe will have a similar structure to that used in the National Literacy Strategy. By way of preparation for this
requirement this school has been successful in its application to be one of twenty Bristol schools which will pilot the Numeracy Project approach from September 1998. This will mean that children will be taught mathematics in a daily session of at least 45 minutes, depending on age. The emphasis will be on teaching children basic mathematical skills and enabling them to apply these to their everyday lives. There will also be a focus on mental arithmetic and problem solving.
You can help your child by;
* encouraging them to take an interest in numbers
* helping them to write their numbers correctly
* play games involving numbers, time, money etc. Back to top
