Absenses
In order to safeguard your children and to comply with the law please will you observe the following procedures for reporting all absences:- Back to top1. Known Absences
(eg Doctor/Dentist appointments)If your child has to attend an appointment of any kind during school hours, a note to that effect must be sent in advance giving details, including arrangements for collecting the child, or for older children, the time they should leave school. Please note that verbal requests from children to leave school will not be accepted. Back to top
2. Holidays
The Education Committee's Regulations allow for an absence of up to two weeks in the year for family holidays. If you are taking holidays in term time a County Holiday Form must be obtained from the Secretary and returned to school at least a week before the holiday starts. Back to top3. Other Absences
Most other absences will be due to illness. We would like to receive a brief telephone call explaining the absence before 9.30am on the first day of absence. We would also like an absence note when your child returns to school. Unexplained absences will be followed up initially by the school and then, if necessary, by the Education Welfare Officer, part of whose job is to ensure that all absences are genuine. Schools are now required by law to report unauthorised absences on each child's annual report which you will receive in July. Back to top4. Rates of Authorised and Unauthorised Absence 1998-99
