Admission & Transfer Arrangements
Admission & Transfer Arrangements
The City of Bristol admission arrangements apply equally to Voluntary Controlled Schools and this means that all children in Bristol may start school in the September following their fourth birthday, although this may be delayed until the beginning of the Spring or Summer term if the parents wish. Children must, however, be in full time education by the beginning of the term following their fifth birthday. This school has an admissions policy which has been agreed jointly with the local infant and primary schools that form the Horfield/Lockleaze cluster group. The aim of the policy is to ensure that each child's introduction to school is a positive and happy experience.
To achieve this, all children are admitted on a part-time basis for the first 4 weeks of the Autumn term. This allows time for children to build relationships with their class teacher and with other children, and to adjust to their new surroundings and routines. It also gives the class teacher the opportunity to get to know the child well right from the start.
Towards the end of the 4 week period it is anticipated that class teachers and parents will discuss the readiness of the child for full-time education with a view to all children attending full-time by half-term at the latest.
Transfer to secondary education normally takes place in the September following the child's eleventh birthday and details relating to this will be sent to you early in your child's final year at this school.
Under the present open enrolment policies parents may opt for any of the Bristol's secondary schools although actual admission is governed by the capacity of the chosen school.
Parents who might be interested in their child coming to this school are encouraged to make sure that their child's name is registered with us at least a year before the September he/she is due to start. Please be aware that this is not regarded as an application for a place, merely an interest. Formal applications for places are required by the City of Bristol on quadruplicate forms obtainable from schools and returnable by October in the year before the child is due to start school. Our current practice is to contact any prospective parents on our list in the second half of the Summer term or at the beginning of September to arrange visits to the school.
Parents are then able to see the School in action and have the opportunity to ask questions before deciding which school they will choose for their child. Back to top
